On a slightly hazardous walk around Wivenhoe Wood in the tail end of a storm in October 2025 I stumbled across a clearing and this scene which caught my eye. I made a few ten second exposures (out of necessity to keep my iso down at f11) and this is one of the results. I hadn’t planned to capture the movement of the trees, just accepted it would be there, but I was pleased to see the effect. A bonus is that there is another clearing behind this row of trees, and the leaves there were completely exposed to the wind becoming just a wall of shades of green to give a nice backdrop to the shapes. This is the picture which really set me on a direction with everything afterwards. It marked the start of the project for me, and led me to develop and learn new techniques when storm strength winds and easy light aren’t available.
Giclée print on archival quality paper. Produced by a local fine art printer, and provided with a white mount cut and fitted by a local framer. Both based in Wivenhoe Essex. Hand inspected and signed.
